I have had the same problem before and it is definitely frustrating because it can make the clothes you wash also smell like gasoline. I have taken some time to research your question here on the Manage My Life website and I noticed that someone else had asked a similar question with a posted response from an expert. I attached the link below for you to view. I hope the link that I provided is helpful.
Thank you for choosing Manage My Life. Gasoline is an oil-based product, you will want to use another oil-based product to get it out. Select an oil-based product that comes out easily in the laundry. This will make your job a lot easier.
The odor is still present from the gas is because the oil from the gas has not been completely removed from your clothing. A good way to remove the gas smell is by placing the soiled clothing into the washer with some a small amount of baby oil. Allow the clothes to agitate in the washer with the baby oil. This will allow the baby oil to attach to the cloths and release the smell.Once the clothes have had a chance to soak with the baby oil, it is time to wash the clothes as normal. Add your regular detergent to the load. It is not recommended that you wash the clothes soiled with gasoline with other garments. Once the washer has completed the cycle, your clothes should be free from the smell of gas. Allow the clothes to air dry on the line or while hanging on a hanger. Do not allow these garments to tumble dry in your dryer because this may be a fire hazard.
